Divorce Mediation - Defined
In mediation, the participants make their own decisions based on sufficient legal information and knowledge.
Mediation does not impose any decisions. The mediator helps the participants make their own final agreement.
In contrast, Courts and Arbitrators impose decisions. Often the imposed decisions are not a very good fit for the participants, in part because the information which is used to make the decisions is incomplete or inaccurate.
A family law mediator provides legal information, assists communication, encourages understanding, and focuses the participants on their individual and common interests. A family mediator works with the participants to explore options, make decisions, and reach their own agreements.
Compared to divorce court orders - these agreements are easier to live with and more beneficial to both parties, their children, and their extended families.
For almost all married couples, mediation is the best way to end the marriage and move on.
Our Mediation Fees
A summary of our fees:
$85.00 to open the mediation file.
$200.00 per hour for mediation time.
$200.00 to draft a divorce separation (final orders) agreement.
Generally these fees are split 50-50 between the parties. Mediation agreements are often completed for less than $1000. The fees depend on the size and complexity of the marital assets and debt, the degree of conflict, and any issues of co-parenting for minor children.
