Colorado Does Not Certify, License, or Regulate Mediators
As stated on other pages on this site, a claim of "Certified Mediator" can be misleading unless the claim includes a disclosure that Colorado does not certify, license, or regulate mediators.
Anyone can become a certified mediator by paying money and attending a class Although there may be some other requirements, in general the status of certification is purchased by paying money to individuals who provide classes.
Usually the people who claim certification status do so because they lack the skill and experience necessary to competently do mediation.
The best mediator is an attorney who is active in litigating court cases. The reason is that the attorney knows first hand how judges make their rulings and orders. And also what the cost of litigation is, both financially and the cost of damaged relationships.
